Hard Coal, a documentary by Marc Brodzik

I haven't seen the entire film yet but just from the subject matter and from the scenes shown in the trailer it looks great. The website for the documentary is very good with lots of stills, music and links to the cast and crew members. Look for upcoming screenings and hopefully it will be picked up and showing in a theatre near you. Photograph by Harald Finster.

Today there was a nice piece in the Philadelphia Inquirer on Marc and the various artisic projects he has been involved with over the years.

ORDER(ed) "Beauty, Order and Individuality"

"Beauty, Order and Individuality," reads the lead in, a quote by Edmund Burke, to the catalog essay (pdf) for the group exhibition ORDER(ed). Essay by Roberta Fallon.

The exhibition will take place at Gallery Siano in Philadelphia. For details on the opening reception, panel discussion and other information visit the Gallery Siano page or my page on the show.

In the essay for the catalog Ms. Fallon writes, "Today’s geometric abstract art comes out of the cauldron of the times and merges our need for personal expression with our need for a system, a way out of the clutter, chaos and overload that are a part of our world." Some images that will be in the exhibition can be seen on her flickr page. Shown above are details from the artwork.

Paul Strand, filmmaker

Known to most of us as one of the great modernist photographers, Mr. Strand also captured the world through the lens of a movie camera. You can see samples on the Met Museum website.

To see examples of his photographs and some upcoming exhibitions, go to the Aperture Foundation site.
