Painting at XIX at the Bellevue

"Ochre Grid", 72 x 68", mixed mediums on canvas, 2005

I am happy to announce that the Park Hyatt at The Bellevue in Philadelphia purchased one of my works for it's new brasserie XIX. It is on the 19th floor at Broad and Walnut Streets. Go have a nice lunch or dinner and a glass of wine while enjoying the panoramic views of the city’s skyline, and the artwork of course. Besides the painting above, the Hyatt purchased 3 other pieces, 2 from fellow Philadelphia area artists and a sculptural piece from a New York artist (sorry I don't have all their names). A designer from Marguerite Rodgers office saw my painting at Gallery Siano during the exhibition this past October and a couple of months later the purchase was made.

Download the press release here.

Michael Klein, columnist from the Philadelphia Inquirer did a review of the new café, bar and restaurant you can read it here.

Ed Hall, cartoonist

A new book of political satire by Ed Hall has just become available. I bought my copy and highly recommend it to all those who like a good laugh with their politics.

You might remember I did a video of Ed in Jacksonville, Florida where he lives. If you haven't seen it visit the links below to find the answer to the question, "where do you get those crazy ideas from anyway?".

Nic Coviello, Part 2, video

Ants and peonies are another subject that ties in with Nic's fascination with nature. He takes photographs, manipulates them on the computer and then he combines them with his drawings, screen prints and other techniques. Believe it or not, the sounds that you hear at the beginning of the clip are actual sounds made by ants.

Nic Coviello, video

It is obvious that Nic Coviello's work is strongly influenced by nature, but there is a lot more to it than that. He is constantly experimenting with new materials and supports like stamped aluminum and transparent rice paper. Just one of the many things he does is to combine fluid calligraphic marks with a mechanical process favored by Andy Warhol, silk screen printing. We visit Nic's studio in Chestnut Hill, a beautiful little city on the outer edge of Philadelphia. When it is time for a break we drive to one of his favorite places to paint, the Forbidden Trail.

Nic also teaches Digital Imaging and Design at the University of Pennsylvania and is a member of the Nexus Gallery.
