Ellie Brown, Video Part 1

I think of Ellie Brown as a compassionate conceptual artist who also takes great care with her craft. If you look at the series of work she has produced like, The Lover's Book series, Girls, and 5th and Olney, it is clear that she cares deeply about her subjects. Both her approach and the way she handles her tools, probe and capture what lies below the surface of the subject.

She recently moved to the border of Kennsington and Fishtown in North Philadelphia, which is divided by the elevated "EL" train. Ellie teaches photography and design nearby at Temple University. I followed as she explored her new neighborhood of houses and industrial buildings with her camera in hand. There were plenty of things to shoot, some expected and some surprising.
